Closet Clean Out

Working together, each item is carefully examined, evaluated, and sorted: keep, donate, recycle, or resell. The process is tedious and can be emotionally challenging - our clothes are extensions of ourselves and remind us of our memories. Having an objective eye can assist in the process of decluttering, as it is hard to part with clothes that hold special places in our lives. A closet clean out is ultimately very rewarding, leaving you with a renewed sense of space and clarity.

Our closet clean outs are based on a two hour appointment starting at $150. If you need additional time, it is $50 for each additional hour after two hours.

How It Works:

Everything Out

We pull all clothing and accessories out of their current arrangement and put it all together in one pile. Seeing every piece of clothing you own all in one place drives the most change.

Trying On

One of the easiest ways to sort through the “Unsure” pile is to try things on with someone who has an objective eye. What do we mean by this? Have you ever tried a piece on that you have never worn, and maybe don’t even really like, but you convince yourself that you’ll wear it one day and you sort of feel guilty because it still has the tags on it so you put it back in the closet.. in the way back of the closet? Exactly.

Having someone to tell you that you’re not going to wear it or that the piece is just not flattering on you takes the guilt out of getting rid of things.

Sorting

We then sort clothes into different piles. These piles usually consist of: Keep, Donate, Recycle, Sell, and Unsure. Keeping only items you really love and wear. Donating items that could be used by someone else. Recycling items that are past their wear. Reselling items that would be more beneficial in cash to you.

Putting Back

After all pieces have a purpose, you like the way they fit, and you feel good wearing it, we strategically put everything back into your closet. If you have a closet system that can be moved, this is where we do the reconfiguring. Having a logical flow to your closet, and organizing by season, style, or color makes it a lot easier to enjoy your clothes.

Recognizing

The items that were placed in the “Unsure” pile probably carry a complex history. Maybe it was a gift you didn’t like that you can’t bring yourself to get rid of, or something you bought on vacation and doesn’t fit into your lifestyle. Pulling these pieces out helps you figure out why you aren’t wearing or using them.

Next Steps

Things that didn’t make the cut (looking at you, promotional T-Shirts) get donated to various charities around the area, recycled through textile recycling programs, or resold. We take care of the donation and recycling allocations. If you would like to resell your own clothes, you are more than welcome to do so. We also offer our own consignment services - the bonus being that all the things that aren’t going back in your closet becomes one less thing for you to deal with. See our consignment page for more information on this process.
